ONYX Hospitality Group Embarks on Second Roadshow in China to Foster Tourism Growth

27th May 2024 – ONYX Hospitality Group, a renowned leader in hotel management, is embarking on a roadshow event in China, targeting the country’s thriving tourism sector and further enhancing the Group’s existing strong connections with the Chinese market. Running from 27th – 31st May 2024, the roadshow will span four key cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Guangzhou, providing a dynamic platform for networking, insightful presentations, and collaborative discussions. The roadshow, following in the footsteps of a successful inaugural event in 2023, not only signifies the Group’s proactive approach to expanding its presence in the Chinese market but also underscores its ongoing pursuit of elevating guest experiences and fostering enduring connections with Chinese travellers.

The initiative leverages the Group’s existing experience in the Chinese market, where a strong portfolio of 10 properties are located. The focus of 2024’s roadshow will be showcasing the progress made since last year whilst illuminating the diverse offerings of ONYX’s Thai properties. China has been a vital source market for these Thai destinations for decades, and the roadshow will solidify this connection.

As soon as the Chinese borders opened in early 2023, ONYX Hospitality Group has been actively implementing strategies within the market to attract Chinese tourists as they returned to Thailand. As a result, China is once again ONYX’s top source market, for the first time since the pandemic. For Q1 2024, Chinese travellers contributed to 10% of ONYX’s overall business, compared to 5% during the same period last year. The overall revenue growth of the Chinese market has seen 1.5X growth (150% growth), year over year.  

In 2023, Thailand received 3.51 million Chinese tourists. According to TAT, in 2024, Thailand is forecasted to receive 8 million tourists, representing 2x growth in 2024 vs last year. This presents tremendous opportunity for ONYX. Recognising the evolving preferences of Chinese travellers, ONYX Hospitality Group is well-positioned to address these demands with its diverse portfolio of brands: Amari, OZO, Shama, and Oriental Residence. Participating in the roadshow and showcasing their offerings to the Chinese market are select premier properties from each of ONYX’s esteemed brands, guaranteeing a comprehensive and varied presentation.

Alongside the Thai properties, ONYX will also highlight the latest updates and developments, with planned expansion across Thailand and Malaysia, including: Shama Rayong (Thailand – which in particular targets Chinese expatriates. Rayong is a city on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand and the capital of Rayong province. Southeast of Bangkok, it is an important industrial area in Thailand), Shama Suasana Johor Bahru (Malaysia), OZO Medini (Malaysia), Shama Hub Metro South Hong Kong, and Shama Hub Qiantang Hangzhou. An opening in Laos, Amari Vientiane, is also in the pipeline.
